Recently, “Grand Canal: the Grand Canal of China and the Grand Canal of Venice” Photo Exhibition opened in the Zorzi Palace of Venice, Italy, which is the location of UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe.
Co-hosted by the relevant departments of the city of Suzhou and the city of Venice, the exhibition and exchange event was carried out both offline and online. Nearly 20 guests participated in the event, including Xu Rong, Minister Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Italy, Zhang Hong, Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General in Milan, De Martin, Deputy Mayor of Venice, Fincato, former Deputy Foreign Minister of Italy and Honorary Citizen of Suzhou, and Flores, Director of UNESCO Regional Bureau for Science and Culture in Europe.
Zhang Hong mentioned in her speech that the friendship between Suzhou and Venice has built an important bridge to promote Sino-Italian economic, trade and cultural exchanges. This exhibition shows the two countries' canal landscape and cultural heritage through the history of thousands of years. The success of the event is another fruitful result of the cultural exchanges between the two cities on the 42nd anniversary of their friendship.
A total of 50 photos on the Suzhou section of the Grand Canal of China and the Grand Canal of Venice are exhibited in this exhibition, of which 30 works by the Chinese side focus on the natural scenery, humanistic customs and historical features of the Suzhou section of the Grand Canal of China, reflecting the new achievements of the protection of the Grand Canal in Suzhou and the new development of construction along the banks. The exhibition will run until mid-April.
