CCID Consulting Urban Economic Research Center released a research report on high-quality development of urban economy in China and the list of China’s top 100 districts in 2024. Three districts from Suzhou were on the list: Wujiang District ranked 8th (same as last year), which was the only district in the Yangtze River Delta region that has made it into the top 10; Huqiu District ranked 47th (same as last year); and Wuzhong District ranked 51st (up one place from last year).
Wujiang’s real economy has strong vitality and resilience. The district is home to 2 World Top 500 enterprises, 4 China’s top 500 enterprises, 31 listed enterprises and 61 national-level “little giant” enterprises that use special and sophisticated technologies to produce novel and unique products. It has four 100-billion-yuan-level industries of high-end textile, new materials, equipment manufacturing, and electronic information. In 2023, the output value of its new energy industry reached 62.8 billion yuan. Currently, Wujiang is focusing on fostering new growth areas such as low-altitude economy, computing power and artificial intelligence and accelerating the development of high-level platform carriers like China Academy of Industrial Internet (CAII) Jiangsu Branch and the computing power dispatching center for the national computing hub in the YRD region of the national integrated big-data center system.
In the first half of this year, Wujiang’s GDP increased by 7.5% and the output value of industrial enterprises above designated size reached 262.2 billion yuan, an increase of 8%, showing strong growth momentum and development vitality. Meanwhile, its import and export value was 84.54 billion yuan, a growth of 4.6%.
