On the evening of Oct. 28, the first Suzhou Jinji Lake China-French Culture and Art Week opened simultaneously at Ligongdi Cultural and Creative Block in Suzhou Industrial Park and at Montmartre of Paris in France. Jin Jie, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Suzhou Municipal Committee and director of the Publicity Department, attended the opening ceremony in Suzhou.
The first Suzhou Jinji Lake China-French Culture and Art Week, which will last until Nov. 7, features a number of cultural and art exchange activities such as the “Meet Montmartre” Exhibition, the China-French Symphony Night, and the French Literature Reading Week.
The opening ceremony of the culture and art week also witnessed the unveiling of the only 1:1 replica of Le mur des je t’aime, or the Wall of Love, in Asia. The work of art, created by French artists Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito, is reputed to be the “most romantic wall in the world” with 311 “I love you” versions in languages of the United Nations member states. It will soon become a new cultural attraction in Suzhou and a hot spot for tourists.
A photography exhibition highlighting the Grand Canal (Suzhou section) kicked off in Montmartre of Paris on the same day. On display are 30 photographs showcasing the achievements Suzhou has made in the protection and development of the Grand Canal.
As one of the most important activities of the 4th China Suzhou Jiangnan Culture and Arts · International Tourism Festival, the Suzhou Jinji Lake China-French Culture and Art Week is expected to become another key cultural exchange event like the iSING! Suzhou International Young Artists Festival.
